- The renewable energy industry in South Africa has experienced significant growth in the last decade. In 2008 renewable energy made up only 0.63% of South Africa’s electricity production, but by 2021, this percentage had risen to 13.7%. Coal however still accounts for 84.4% electricity production.
- South Africa used the COP 26 platform to secure an ambitious and progressive finance and adaptation
package of R131 billion from developed nations (including France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America) to help South Africa with achieving a just and inclusive transition to green energy.
