New Labour Court and Labour Appeal Court rules published and shall commence and come into operation on 17 July 2024
The Rules Board of the Labour and Labour Appeal Courts drafted and adopted new rules for the Labour Court and the Labour Appeal Court (Rules). These Rules were published on 3 May 2024 in GN 50608 (the publication). The Rules replace the existing Labour Court Rules published in GN 1665 of 1996, the Practice Manual of the Labour Court of South Africa, and the Labour Appeal Court Rules published in GN 1666 of 1996. On 5 June 2024, it was announced that the Rules shall commence and come into operation on 17 July 2024.
The Rules will have a direct impact on court process in the Labour Court and Labour Appeal Court. Court rules are designed to effectively regulate and expedite the resolution of disputes that are initiated through the judicial process. Accordingly, abiding by court rules are imperative to ensure that a matter is properly placed before a court and the litigious process is respected.
