Book Launch Webinar: Teachers' Right to Strike
Prior to 1994 teachers were denied a meaningful Right to strike. This changed in 1994 when South Africa adopted a Bill of Rights. In his book, published by Juta, Chicktay critically discusses whether the LRA conforms to ILO standards, particularly in respect to teacher strikes. Chicktay then develops a model that adequately balances a teacher’s right to strike and students’ rights to education in compliance with ILO standards and the South African Constitution.
