CDH announces three appointments to its Dispute Resolution practice
“It goes without saying that 2020 has had a massive impact on everyone and we continue to see the economic effect. However, there are still opportunities to be found in a tough economic climate, and these appointments reflect our commitment to growing the right talent and allowing us to deliver exceptional service for our clients. Clive, Danika and Kyle will prove a great addition to the Dispute Resolution practice expanding the Construction sector,” comments Thabile Fuhrmann, Chairperson and Director in the Dispute Resolution practice at CDH.
Already a leading practice in the Construction and Engineering sectors, CDH provides legal and commercial solutions that add significant value to projects, from conception through to construction. According to Tim Fletcher, head of the Dispute Resolution practice, “The construction industry is having a tough time and as we guide our clients through the challenges they face, we are delighted to add to our team the substantial expertise in both construction and engineering as well as construction insurance brought by Clive, Danika, and Kyle”.
Rumsey has almost 30 years’ experience in construction and engineering law and holds dual rankings in Chambers Global: Band One for Construction (a position that only four other practitioners hold) and Band Four for Dispute Resolution. Legal 500 EMEA echoes this strong endorsement, ranking Rumsey as a Leading Individual in Construction Law – another prestigious accolade that is held by only seven other specialists in the country.
During his career, Rumsey has acted in many high-profile matters and represented parties to construction contracts in dispute resolution procedures including litigation, mediation, adjudication and arbitration, under the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Association of Arbitrators, Arbitration Foundation of South Africa and United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Rules. He also advises employers, contractors, suppliers and professionals in the construction industry on various standard forms of contracts including New Engineering Contract (NEC), Fédération Internationale Des Ingénieurs – Conseils (FIDIC), Joint Building Contracts Committee (JBCC) and bespoke contracts.
Balusik focuses on litigation, and construction and engineering law, primarily dealing with construction adjudications, arbitrations and construction insurance. She has experience in multi-million-rand arbitrations and adjudications under the NEC suite of contracts, as well as the FIDIC red and yellow books for disputes within Southern Africa. Balusik has extensive expertise in drafting and preparing reviews of various policy wording and engaging in settlement discussions of smaller subrogated insurance claims.
Bowles focuses on construction and engineering law, general commercial litigation, insurance and banking litigation, and alternative dispute resolution.
“We welcome Clive, Danika and Kyle into the CDH family and wish them every success. Their talent will deepen the firm’s bench of construction experts at this crucial time and demonstrates our commitment to navigating through the current crisis with our clients; to exploring opportunities that may exist within the market; and to offering solutions that focus on industry players’ long-term sustainability,” concludes CDH CEO, Brent Williams.
