Experience
- Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr is representing Central Bank of Eswatini, the leading Eswatini-based central bank. Our South Africa-based corporate investigations team is advising the Central Bank of Eswatini on investigating the Ecsponent Eswatini investment scheme collapse. This is the largest financial investigation by value, scope and impact in the history of the country. The investigation was initiated by an instruction from Parliament. We are handling all aspects of this high-profile investigation, which involves high-ranking individuals in Eswatini and cross-border transactions involving South Africa and Europe. We report to the Governor of the Central Bank, who in turn reports to the Minister of Finance. This investigation is of national interest. Here we demonstrate the wide range of complex and highly sensitive investigations in relation to which we are regularly called to advise, here at the intersection of financial and forensic law, both in South Africa and cross-border. This is clearly the caseload of a Band One-level team.
